‘One Step Forward, Two Steps Back’

Thursday night –

‘One Step Forward, Two Steps Back.’ That’s how Lina’s doctor summarized this week.

Last week he had said ‘Two Steps Forward, One Step Back’.

I spoke with him for awhile this afternoon. He says that she has multiple issues going on – none of which are that serious but in combination they are concerned about her condition. He said they consider Lina to be in ‘unstable condition’ today.

They finally put a feeding tube in tonight – down her nose into her stomach.

For the past couple days she has had ‘mental confusion’ which has been pretty obvious to those of us who have spoken via phone. Friday they are going to do a series of brain tests to see what’s going on.

Her back wound – which happened when she fell last Saturday – has gotten worse. They had covered it with gauze using tape that Lina is allergic to. And so the wound grew to the area where the tape had been applied. Because she’s on heavy dosage of steroids (trying to beat back the aGVHD) – the wound isn’t healing. They are worried about infection so they have her wrapped in a body wound thing that they would use on burn patients.

Tomorrow my girls and I will go back to Boston for the weekend.

Thank you Craig for sharing with us. It must be ever so hard for you and the the girls to be so hopeful, yet have to witness the “two step back” thing. I know its also hard for Lina, but you three are the ones that have to maintain, press forward, be there for her and each other, yet you have your own anguish I’m sure. Please know that we are all there for you all and its OK to take a mental break now and then. Lina and you all are in my thoughts almost constantly these days and I check this forum several times a day….being in the health field and having had family in similar predicaments, I know how things can change from moment to moment and am hoping and praying for the very best outcome for all of you. Peace! Susan

Try to keep holding tight to each other and to all of us who care and are holding all of you, particularly Lina, in our thoughts and prayers. I’m hoping and praying that the weekend will bring Lina “two steps forward” and “no steps back.”

Thank you so much, Craig, for keeping us all posted.

    With love and healing thoughts,

Hopefully the nourishment will help Lina be stronger and heal the wound. Maybe that is part of the mental confusion as well. Keep positive, a few right turns and it will be a leap forward. Sending strength and hope your way. Thanks for the constant updates.

    Lina,
I’m thinking of you, as always. Lina, know that within you is a power unique only to you. Draw on that power and focus on the goals you have set for yourself. Perhaps they are goals you have not shared with others and that is okay, just focus on what it will take to reach that place.

Craig, thanks for sharing this journey with so many of us that know and love Lina. Hug the girls and keep them close to you. And as always, I am available 24/7 for my gal-friend, Miss Lina.

    Love from Texas,
    Joyce

Lina- What a week! Take it slow and draw on all that inner strength you have. Jim and I are having a “positive Thought” time each day thinking about you and Craig and the girls. Try having them(hospital staff)putting your favorite kind of popscicle in the microwave, til it gets kind of mushy(Banana was always my favorite) You can kind of “slurp” it down and prented your eating some exotic soup in the south of France! Could I come see you some weekend? Just a short visit, I’ll check back with you OK? Things in Cape are the same old same old-but you’ll be back soon enough and can experience it for yourself. I miss Chloe, have’nt seen her for a while-she will ALWAYS be my girl! Tell Craig I adore him for telling me about this web site! I think of ALL of you- I’m here for anything they need and you too. Keep fighting the good fight!! Love, Deb
